Lose Some Weight With Appetite Controlling Healthy Foods

By Rachel Payton

Sometimes difficult to carry out, the theory behind losing weight is rather simple-- burn more calories than you take in. To lose one pound a week, for example, you must eat 500 calories less per day than you are currently eating.

The reality is that our bodies don't need too much calories to survive. In fact, scientists have discovered that the human body can go two to three weeks without food before it dies. What makes weight reduction hard, however, is because our bodies will certainly trick us straight into believing that we're hungry, no matter if we're carrying around lots of extra body fat that can be digested into energy.

Don't get me wrong -- appetite really does serve a reason. In an ideal-weight people, appetite is considered the cue to absorb even more calories, as they will very soon be needed to continue basic life functions. An obese man or woman doesn't always need all these calories, though, and the hunger mainly tricks us into feeling that we do.

Fortunately, certain foods we eat can actually suppress the appetite, make us feel fuller longer and, as a result, cause us to eat less.

As a general rule, foods high in fiber will make you feel fuller longer because their bulkiness will stretch the stomach and trigger the body's appetite suppression system. Nuts and seeks, like pine nuts and flax seeds, also trick the body into thinking we are fuller than we really are.

Although not necessarily a "food", simply drinking a full glass of water prior to a meal will suppress the appetite, take up room and result in a lower caloric intake. The same is true for green tea leaf extract, because it is known that it triggers the release of a bodily hormone contributing to curbing of your appetite and is also believed to also boost metabolic rate.

And, in conclusion, folks with a sweet tooth will probably be happy to learn that dark chocolate is truly a diet aid as the bitterness serves as a natural appetite suppressant.
