Have You Been Unknowingly Undermining Your Diet?

By Jeff Thompson

Everybody knows that the best foods we can consume are whole grains, lean meats and healthy fats. These will be the foods that give us protein and also energy. They keep the body nutritionally healthy with minimal calories while we work hard to reduce our fat at the gym. Did you realize though that some of the diet foods you've been consuming may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They might be even adding unhealthy calories to your body! Here are some of the foods that you might be eating which are hurting your efforts to lose weight.

You aren't really helped by Sports Drinks. You've possibly been thinking that the sports drink is the best way to help your body feel much better after a workout. Most medical doctors recognize, however, that if your exercise routine is shorter than ninety minutes, drinking water should be fine. Sports drinks are packed with sugar and calories and a lot of other things you don't need such as artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Instead, try drinking some chocolate milk. Your body utilizes the sugar in the chocolate for muscle mass repair and everyone knows how good milk is for you.

Protein Shakes are not a person's friend. Lots of people believe that having a protein shake is a good way to curb cravings between meals. When you are eating an otherwise healthy diet, however, a protein shake merely sends you into protein overdose. Converse to common belief, protein isn't really stored as muscle tissue fiber, it is stored as fat. This means that if you have already taken in too much protein that day, your whole body will simply store what it doesn't need in your fat cells and that doesn't help you lose weight or inches of your waist line at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat is not very healthful at all. You possibly believe that a sandwich that is produced from pre-packaged lean deli meat and whole grain bread is a pretty good lunch. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat is packed full of preservatives along with about a third of your suggested daily sodium intake. This will probably be particularly harmful if you are at risk of contracting heart disease. Instead of selecting deli meat, select home cooked chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Yes you are going to shell out more money for these options but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are a massive amount things that we think will help us lose weight like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask a medical expert which elements are the most effective to eat and then follow the directions you are given. If you are careful about what you eat and are also good to your system, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
