Dr SIMEONS

By Molly Sandenberger

The world renown hCG diet, used in the treatment of obesity, was founded by Dr. AlbertT. W. Simeons who is now and then referred to as Dr. A. T. W Simeons.

He was born in England, and he spends his childhood in London. After that he studied Medicine in the University of Heidelberg. Soon after that, Dr. Simeons moved to Germany and then in Switzerland. While he was there, he worked many different areas of Medicine, when he decided to specialise in Tropical medicine. His decision leads him to Hamburg where he started visiting the School of Tropical Medicine.

Dr. Simeon researched and studied ways to cure malaria, and investigated methods of staining malaria parasites, during his stay at Hamburg, for which work he was awarded the Red Cross Order of Merit in 1931 by the Queen of England.

That same year he moved to India, where he stayed for 18 years and continued practicing Medicine, when he found something remarkable. He discovered undernourished women who were almost starving were still able to give birth to healthy babies. Soon after that, he discovered that their bodies were producing large amounts of hCG. That hCG was breaking down the fat reserves of the body of the mother and was supplying it to the baby she carries. And then they give birth to a healthy and strong baby. So he studied this specific aspect of weight management in detail. After he finished his work in India, he moved to Italy.

Following a period of research, Dr. Simeons published 'Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity' in 1954. His theory regarding fat breakdown usually occurs during periods of starvation, but after around 90 days or so, or in pregnancy, the fats that are present around the joints and thighs break down to provide energy and nutrients. These secondary fat reserves are normally not utilised in healthy people, and can be the reason for weight gain.

As Dr. Simeons continued with his research, he published a report in which he expressed surprise at how a diet low in calories combined with hCG resulted in a noticeable weight-loss that reshaped the body, and sometimes recognized in subjects who were not given to exercising. The treatment was devoid of side-effects such as headaches, irritability, hunger pangs or weakness. So, Dr. Simeons concluded that it was the fat reserves that were broken down and helped subjects to slim down.

Organizing his findings together in a record, he created a famous weight-loss program which has gripped the market today. The program has been used by thousands, and the results have been positive. What started as an observation project led to the most effective weight-loss and maintenance program of the twenty-first century.
