Thanks to diets like the Atkins diet and South Beach, more and more people are becoming "carb conscious." Carbohydrates get blamed for many people's weight problems. There are various kinds of carbohydrates and not all of them are bad. There are good carbs and your body needs these. There is a reason athletes often eat carbohydrate rich foods before they have to perform. Good carbohydrates give your body a needed energy source. It is not healthy to cut all carbohydrates out of your diet, despite what the Atkins books say. A low carb diet is a healthier option, as long as you're eating good carbs. Here are some tips on how to do that.

Eggs are a great food for people on low carb diets. Carb heavy and fatty foods tend to be associated with breakfast. As an example, bacon is one breakfast food many people won't give up. Eggs and fruit juice are a good breakfast, however. If you take care to prepare your eggs without a lot of high carb cheese or other additives, they can be a great substitute for other high carb foods. Simply adding fresh veggies can give you a great omelet.

Salads are loaded with fruits and vegetables and sometimes with different meats. These tasty foods are all low in carbs. So feel free to enjoy! Keep eating natural foods. Those who have the roughest time handling a low carb diet are typically people who try the "pre-packaged" alternatives. Splenda and "low carb bars" are not good. Not a good idea to use these as an alternative. These don't do anything for you. Look to natural foods to care for the needs of your body. Low carb bars only play tricks on your mind but do not satisfy the body. Peanuts, the way to go for curbing the candy bar craving. This is like having a payday candy bar only withough the noughet.

Cheese is a great snack if you are trying to eat a low carb diet. Most cheeses do not contain carbs. Reading the nutrition label before eating too much will help keep your carbs in check. Some cheeses, like feta, contain a small amount of carbohydrates. Talk to your doctor or a nutritionist if you'd like to use cheese as a healthy snack in your low carb diet. The amount of carbs a cheese has is mainly determined by how it is made.

So many people think that eating low carb means eating boring food. Many also believe they will have to give up their favorite foods and snacks. The truth is that eating low carb diets isn't all that different than eating a normal healthy diet. But you can find a number of low carb alternatives to the high carb foods that you love.
